Clean Heat Standard

Passed in 2020 by an out of touch Vermont Legislature, the Global Warming Solutions Act will take an unacceptable toll on the quality of life for the average working class Vermonter.

Can you afford $2,500 per year in additional cost for energy?

In 2020, Vermont legislature passed the Global Warming Solutions Act. The act “requires Vermont to reduce greenhouse gas pollution to 26% below 2005 levels by 2025. Emissions would need to be 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 and 80% below by 2050.”

In order to meet those goals, the legislature passed the (inaccurately named)“Affordable Heat Act” in 2023. Per a WCAX report, the cost to Vermonters will be $17.3 billion! This equates to a massive $665 million a year! When divided among the 266,000 households in the state of Vermont, it roughly equals about a $2,500 increase per household. What will you have to cut out to afford this?

This is the consequence of continued supermajority politics leading to long term negative effects with very little to no realizable upside for the average Vermonter. Now is the time for new representation that will not support legislation that breaks the back of the average Vermonter.

The Public Utility Commission under the framework established by Act 18, will design the Clean Heat Standard and will come to the legislature in 2025 for approval. This is the unintended consequences of bad decisions and we need new representation that will not support legislation that breaks the back of the middle class.

There are other ways. With immediate and tangible results to protect the beauty of Vermont - without killing us in the wallet.
