Education Funding
Simplify Vermont's confusing education spending formula.
Vermont’s education system has become one of the most expensive in the country, and the way we fund it is unnecessarily confusing. Terms like Long Term Weighted Average Daily Membership (LTWADM), Common Level of Appraisal (CLA), Education Spending, and Property Yield only add to the complexity, making it nearly impossible for the average taxpayer to understand.
Despite spending 20% more on education compared to New Hampshire, Vermont's student outcomes are not better and not improving. This raises a crucial question: Why are we spending so much more without seeing better results?
I believe Vermont’s education system needs real reform. As your State Representative, I will not support any bills that are designed to confuse, don’t focus on academic achievement, or create more unfunded mandates that burden our schools. It’s time to simplify the funding model, ensure fairness, and focus on improving outcomes for our students, not just increasing costs.
If we are serious about giving Vermont’s children the education they deserve, we must fix the system and focus on academic excellence. We need clear, transparent policies that prioritize students and respect the taxpayers who support them.
Together, we can bring about meaningful changes that benefit both our schools and our communities.
